He's saying that labor was under 500; So I understand that its 500 + the parts? 500 in labour is a steal indeed; but not in a good way! This shouldnt take a mechanic more then 3 hours. If he charges more either he is incompetent, dont know what he's doing or obviously lying.

I dont know why so much people pay to do this. Take your time and its very DIY-able. If I did it, everybody could. I'm not a mechanical guy at all but if you can distinguish nuts and bolts, you should be ok. But you have to get the good parts in the first place for sure.
My aftermarket specialist quoted me only 255 for the entire intake manifold swap and 85 to remove and install my new magnaflow catback dual mufflers on my 2009 328i
