I don't like the G80/82 design at all, and I had an F80 ZCP. That's ok, they decided to make a drastic change, it just doesn't work for me.
Actually went by my local dealer today (I like going on Sunday, when there's no sales guys to bother me) and saw my first G82 in person (I've seen the G80 a few times in the flesh). I looked at that thing from every possible angle, and it just doesn't do it for me. It looks a lot bigger than the previous gen, which isn't my cup of tea, and then the grill remains polarizing from my perspective.
With that being said, and having owned / leased 8 BMWs, I have "moved on" if that makes sense. This design language / ever increasing size are obviously the way forward, for at least some of the different series cars. I don't want one, any least what's out there for new purchase at the moment, but I don't begrudge anyone who does. It's sort of like preferring brunettes over blondes.
In any event, I think the F80 and F87 are two of the best looking Bimmers to come out in a while, and perhaps that's why you see such a strong reaction with the new G series cars and what folks think the next M2 might look like. The M2, in particular, is essentially the M3 of old, so I get why it matters to folks. Regardless of where someone lands on the spectrum, it's fun to debate back and forth, as long as that debate remains good natured and not personal in nature. Seems to be a lot of that around here lately, the uncivil stuff.
