As you pointed out, there is much more to a car than straight-line acceleration. How it handles the curvy bits is paramount.  I have yet to meet a BMW enthusiast who feels differently, but... ... at the exit to a curvy bit.... there's that pesky 0-60 or 60-130 again.
I am also quite certain that, the way they've designed that chassis on the Type-R, it is infinitely easier to get the back-end out on that FRONT wheel drive car than it is on my X3 m40i. - that's fun, but I have no use for it on a front wheel drive car. That's just me. I'd rather a full rally spec. if I'm going that route.
It's a value equation. Passion for the car itself (as with the Bronco) determines the value for the buyer. I have no passion for the vehicle - so as to re-state my initial post that... acknowledges what you keep "re-acknowledging"- as if none of the rest of us are acknowledging it with you.
