My understanding is if the rock came flying towards your car on the road it would fall under comprehensive.

Years ago while driving on the highway, a truck ahead of me ran over a piece of tire tread (at like 90 mph) ejecting it into my front bumper and cracked it in half.

Insurance claim fell under comprehensive.
