So I've been stock piling mods for my 335i in my living room. It got so bad that I was running out of space in my apartment so I thought today was a good day to get some of the mods installed.
Unfortunately, I've also realized that I've gotten to lazy and spoiled to crawl under the car and do my own install. So I took my car to VSMotorsports which is a local Chicagoland race shop. Almost everyone who owns a BMW knows about them as their work is top notch.
VSMotorsports installed AE Performance catless exhaust and the AR Design catless downpipes. I've already been running the BMS O2 simulator for over 2 weeks now.
The install went smoothly and the guys were kind enough to cut my OEM exhaust into two pieces so that it will fit in the car.
Let me share some of my first experiences with this combo:
1. FITMENT OF PARTS:
I cannot stress how well both products are designed. It also looks like the downpipes and the exhaust were made by the same person for my car. The grade of materials used both in the downpipes and the exhaust are top notch. Everything fit nicely and nothing had to be modified or adjusted. It all bolted right up and it fit nicely and snugly! Simply perfect execution on the manufacturing of the downpipes and the exhaust. Even the guys at VSMotorsports noted that this is the first time they have installed exhausts and downpipes that fitted so well right out of the bat!
2. SOUND EXPERIENCE:
Going from completely stock to fully catless on the first install caught me by surprise. When the car was started for the very first time after the install it sounded like a big grizzly bear has been awaken from a winter's sleep. After about a minute of idle-ing everything calmed down a bit and the exhaust system established a nice tone which was not rude or annoying, but definitely reminded everyone that: "Hey I am here and don't mess with me" .
Lets not forget the turbo sounds! OMG! Totally intoxicating. I can hear the two snails twisting and whistling at each other at partial and full throttle. Let off the gas pedal and you can hear the DVs working too.
I must say that the soundtrack of the car has been completely transformed! ...and that's on stock intake, stock intercooler and stock software!
3. PERFORMANCE:
It is definitely too early to make any claims whatsoever. What I can tell you for sure is that one can definitely feel the engine being much more lively and responsive, especially in mid to high RPMs. The butt dyno says that the car is running better for sure! Keep in mind, my car is completely stock otherwise!
If you are trying to make a decision what exhaust and downpipe combo to get, look no further. Simply put, AE Performance Exhaust + AR Design catless downpipes is perhaps the best thing you can spend money on!
