The 3rd car I ever owned was a 2002 Mazda Protege purchased late in the model year right before the 2003's came out. In 2003 Mazda released a Mazdaspeed version of the Protege which was about a million percent better (about $7 to $8 K more. They added a turbocharger to the 2.0 liter n/a motor, came with really sweet wheels, new body components, cool interior, way better stereo system, and other stuff. I was soooo fricken pissed and wanted out of my 2002 Protege as soon as I heard about the new car.

This M2 scenario is nowhere near the same but as a recent buyer of a 2024 it's a little annoying. None of the 2025 updates are going to matter that much to me but I know I will be tempted by the future comp or CS models assuming BMW does produce them for the M2.
