I doubt it has very little to do with that but more with the cost of repair. Insurance companies are about loss actuarial tables. Since most EV's are second or third vehicles and get a multi discount, the folks who only have a EV are in for a shock.
No one said trying the save the planet was going to be cheap, except for every Democrat running for office.
