Speaking of VW Golfs, you must have never had a 2 door Golf. My mk7 Golf 2 door was way worse on door length and shape than my 2er.
At least the BMW rear end of the door is curved. The mk7 came to a sharp point that would dig into grass, mulch, or whatever else you were alongside.
