The M2 uses the hood, doors and trunk lid from the M240i. Safe to say the frame and straight off the M240i so the mounting points for the hood have to be in the same place as well as the headlight assembly to align correctly.
The designer can say that it was intentional to show "muscle" but my guess is he had no choice and blended everything best he could and it was the best compromise. He could have matched the slope but at the cost of how the grill would look and balance with the headlights??
