Everyone should drive across this great and beautiful country at least once in their life. It's always an epic adventure no matter which route you take.
I've done Portland to Boston twice. Boston to Seattle once.
New Jersey to Seattle by way of Moab once. That was the best trip by far. 3 friends in a jeep with a 2-day stop off in Moab to do a little offroading.
I really have a soft spot for South Dakota. Beautiful scenery. I'd love a little cabin there on a river some day.
