BMW recently (late 2020) shifted its petrol based engine production out of Germany. Munich is focusing on electric vehicles and electric based powerplants.
The BMW 8 and 12 cylinder engines shifted to a plant in England, 4 and 6 cylinder engines are produced in Steyr, Austria. I think this Steyr plant started production of such engines in mid to late 2020. Various engine parts may be sourced elsewhere? (ie heads?)
