Production of the new BMW M2 begins at the San Luis Potosí Plant
• The iconic sports car is manufactured in Mexico for the whole world.

The BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosí closes the year with the start of production of the second generation of one of the company's most emblematic models, the completely new BMW M2 for the global market. Thanks to the highest quality standards and state-of-the-art technologies, this site joins Munich, Dingolfing and Spartanburg to become the fourth plant in the world to produce M vehicles, the BMW sports division that is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The M is a reference to motor sport, so the division's vehicles must comply with specific testing and validation processes, in addition to those that the brand's cars comply with, so the integration of this high-performance sports compact is It comes from the fact that the company has invested more than one billion dollars to build the Plant, bet on digital transformation and equip its facilities with the highest level infrastructure to carry out test drives.
For this project, it was necessary to provide specific training to employees in processes ranging from planning to vehicle launch, including dynamic driving tests, as well as adaptations in the structures of the bodywork and assembly areas to manufacture the vehicle. new exterior design of the vehicle. In addition, the Plant intends to offer 500 additional jobs to open a second shift in April 2023.
“Thanks to the highly flexible design of our Plant, as well as the continuous investments in infrastructure and talent development that we have been making since the beginning of our operation, today we were able to join the select group of plants that manufacture M division vehicles with minimal modifications. This confirms that the path we have set for ourselves is the correct one”, said the President and CEO of the BMW Group Planta San Luis Potosí, Harald Gottsche.
Suppliers located in Mexico are an essential part of the launch of the new BMW M2. Currently, there are 77 suppliers installed in the republic that supply parts for this sports car. In the same way, 26 of them contributed to the renewed aesthetics of this model, developing new components, among them, the covers of the defenses. side skirts, headlights, the exhaust system and the front and rear axles.
The second generation of the compact high-performance sports car
Compact dimensions, together with powertrain and chassis technology adapted from the BMW M3 and BMW M4, are at the heart of a vehicle concept that endows the new edition of the two-door model with seductive agility and handling that remains easily controllable, even when the driver explores the limits of the vehicle. This distinctive character profile is also manifested in the expressive exterior design with its athletic coupé proportions. The sophisticated control and operation concept for customizing vehicle configuration also helps produce a performance experience of remarkable intensity. Thanks to all these attributes, the new BMW M2 continues the brand's tradition of ultra-sporty models with compact dimensions that began in 1973 with the arrival of the BMW 2002 turbo.
