Oh yeah probably same concept. Lower powered version gets manual. Higher powered torque converter only.

IIRC, the reason why the G8x Competition/CP doesn't offer manual is because it exceeds the torque limit of the MT, thus they could only off the MT in the base (Pure) G8x model.
The current generation M2 CP engine is similar to the F8x base model, thus if this trend holds, then the G87 CP should have similar specs to the G8x base, hence there could be a MT offer for the G87 CP model. However, the G87 CS, when it comes out later will likely have similar engine to the G8x Competition, thus will not have MT.

Maybe this is what bmw says but it's not entirety accurate as the f06 manual had 680NM
