But I too had inquired about the possibility M2 x-Drive. In my inquiries I was told that the MT they use is only rated to about 473 HP. That is why in the M3 & M4, if I remember that discussion I had at the dealership, that the competitions on have AT. Like I said, I am not sure if I remember the the "473 HP" number correctly, but the logic is believable. I have read the G87 M2 Competition will be somewhere between 440 and 455 HP, which is why the MT will be available (hopefully that is true).
I think the limitation for MT has more to do with the torque than hp. The base M3/4 have 473hp, but the torque is only 406 lb-ft. The Competition models have 503hp, but most notably torque is 479 lb-ft. This is purely speculative on my part, but I'd bet a M2C will get the same S58 variant as the M3/4C that has been detuned. If so the MT would not be able to handle the extra torque.
I believe you are correct 'cause they beef up the clutch itself on the G8X but used the same manual transmission as the last couple of generations..

I believe when they did the R&D many years ago, the determined this same manual transmission they been recycling maxes out at around 400 HP/TQ and they never tried test it beyond that.

So any new manual model is going to be electronically capped at roughy 400hp/TQ however they want to package and market this.
