I know a lot of people that have bought into the idea that in 10yrs there will be no more ICE cars for sale. I've had discussions with many friends and coworkers about this and was willing to bet them it was a pipedream. Yes, ICE will slowly be phased out but the challenges to get there are enormous and it won't be anywhere near ready for prime time in 10yrs. Governments know this, but they have to do something to get the ball rolling and so this is more or less a placeholder that's subject to change. They also don't expect every legacy ICE car to be taken off the road once EVs become mainstream, it's just not feasible. Gasoline will be sold for many, many years to come.
