Your theory makes a lot of sense but the resemblance of the grill in the camo shots to the leaked bumper is undeniable.
I think this could potentially be a strategy by BMW. i.e. leak dubious and controversial looking bumper and let the negative commentary begin. Then confirm the leak by revealing the grill on the camo car, so that when the car is actually revealed people are less shocked by the design as it looks much better and less controversial when viewed as an overall package.
Edit: Actually, @lemetier how would you explain the M2 logo on the grill?
