The carbon roof should have been standard on this car IMO, with the option for a moonroof. I think since so many in the U.S. like the CF, BMW know they can make money on this. That what is seems like to me, but who knows .
When the F87 first came out, there was no option for a moonroof. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I really didn't like that decision either. The option for a moonroof when it was offered for the LCI was $1050. Charging $2600 for a CF is because of the demand IMHO.

Developing a CF roof isn't cheap.
If you want the CF roof standard it would simply increase the base price of the car, and not have the MSRP within a stones throw of F87 DCT.
Would you rather the car be $64,xxx and have the roof standard?
BMW knows not 100% of buyers want a costly option and ensured the base price stayed low for those that don't.
