Thanks for your compliments.

>>19x8.5+28 do you think that half inch on the width will help keep things "skinnier"<<

So let's start with the stock 34mm offset.
Guys have run spacers as deep as 12mm for an offset of 22mm.
Let's call that the safety zone.

Where you are now with an 8.5" rim and 28 offset, you are around 21.625.
(Technically it's actually still 28, but I am accounting for the rim width which pushes the overall wheel out further 6.375mm)
That is pretty close to the edge of "safety".

Since you are using the stock tire size, you are OK as the difference is less than 1mm.

If you compare my width and offset, I am at 19.75. The difference is 1.875mm.
So we are both pretty close.

So let's move onto the tire.
The stock 225/45-18 tire is 26" tall (diameter)
Your 225/40-19 is 26.1" tall
My 235/40-19 is 26.4" tall and .4" wider (10mm)

Given our wheel offsets are so close, if you run the 235/40-19, you'll most likely rub like my car.
Hard to believe .4" in height and width would rub but... the good news... I do drive my car like a maniac. I do 80-90 on freeways out in Norcal and we have some stupidly serious dips on the freeway.
So if you have MUCH better/level roads, probably not an issue. I don't rub IF I drive normally around town.

When it rubs, I notice marks on the upper sidewall of the tire - so that tells me the tire is too wide/too close to the fender... afterall .4" is pretty significant. Throw in manufacturer tire variations and it's a crapshoot.

This is why I suggest maybe moving your offset inward say to 36 or 38 from your 28. At 36 or 38 you can use spacers if you want to play with the wheel offset. Note a 32 on a 19x9 puts the rim almost flush with the fender BUT will give tire rub on a wider tire.

Or you can raise the car, at stock ride height I got no rub... but visually, what fun is that?

Some of the other forum guys may chime in, but your wheel shop may confirm this too.
