I did the same, I wasn’t able to get the harness unplugged so I just slid the taps in in-place. Had to be careful to get a good connection but I wasn’t confident I could un-clip the harness without breaking something. Some people in that thread also suggested removing the entire mirror but this seemed difficult and unnecessary.
For removing the other piece I had no trouble but I have a plastic trim-puller tool set I used.
