Currently looking to do this as a summer project.. Upgrading from a base audio system to at least new speakers all around, subs and an amp. Hard time finding a harness nowadays it seems. Any tips on that or reccomended to just modify the current wiring?

Custom wiring was my chosen route, in contravention of rule 1 of this thread which is "don't cut any wires"!

I recoded the CIC to hifi output changing just changing AUDIO_SYSTEM_CIC to "hifi" and leaving the FA alone. I then used a CAT7 cable to provide a high quality screened feed of the four balanced pairs to the amp. Below is this connected to the CIC's quad block connector before *cutting* the old wires as they're no longer needed. The screen is connected at the CIC end, but not at the amp end.



I've run 16AWG silver plated, PTFE insulated cable to the front door connectors so I can drive mids and tweeters actively without crossovers.



I'm using the original connector housings for the subs, but with 12AWG cable running to terminals 2 and 3. Perhaps a bit fat for the crimps, so these got soldered too.



Similar story for the rear speakers again using 16AWG, and then the whole lot run to the amp's molex connectors.



In reality I don't know how much better this will be than using the existing cabling as plug-n-play harnesses would do, but I enjoyed doing it, and I'm pretty sure it's worth the effort.

I know it's been a while, but maybe you can still recollect whether you had issues with the open wiring speaker errors reported by the CIC self diagnostics? This is exactly what's happenning for me after I installed the amp in my car. I assume that the headunit makes a self test for the output lines upon the startup, and since the amp's impedance is much higher than that of the speakers, it thinks that the curcuit is open. Does coding to Hi-Fi fix this issue or not? I'm going to try this out, but would appreciate any hints if you already experienced and solved similar issue. If coding will not work out, the only thing I can think of is adding time relais to simulate 4Ohm impedance for the startup phase and then switch the output of the CIC to the input of the amp.
