Look for diy clutch and / or flywheel installation threads or videos. A couple of examples from the yootoobs:

Update - Ended up going with a reman transmission, new clutch and while doing all that noticed that the clutch slave cylinder was leaking pretty bad so replaced that as well. After getting this all done, I'm quite happy with the results.

For fuck's sake, I wasn't aware of this issue. I thought BMW manuals were really solid.

I just got a 2011 335is with 6 speed 3 months ago.

For everything (transmission, clutch, clutch slave cylinder, miscellaneous parts) was about $5,200 USD. My local BMW dealer lowered their shop rate and only charged me $1,000 USD for labor. So... $6,500 USD after taxes. Sure, it sucks and would have preferred to spend that money elsewhere, but I couldn't imagine giving up on this car.

Damn uh. For sure, I would bite it if I had owned the car for a long time, but just got the car 4 months ago so hope a big repair like this doesn't happen soon.

I've started parking in reverse now to avoid cold stress on the reverse in the mornings lol, after reading threads like these.

I got the same issue with my 320i -07 manual.

I can get it into reverse,, but if it's cold I have to try like 10 times before it engages. When it doesn't engage it goes directly to neutral as soon as I release the clutch.

The car has a milage of about 240 000 km / 152 000 miles.

Bought it a year ago and did not notice anything back den. During last summer the problem started to show up but not that often. Now with like -30 C / -22 F outside it's really hard to get it to engage in reverse.

Guess one option would be to change the oil in the gearbox but reading this thread it seems more like a new gearbox is the only option :-(

When you say you couldn't put it in reverse, did that problem occur from one day to another or was it like in my case that it gradually became worse?

Thanks again BMW!

I know this is FOREVER old, but I've been a member forever and maybe Malandrino has too.

I've lost reverse and was reading your post... i'd be totally fine with this if it works to get into reverse but I'm confused ... if you rev to 4k, and then release the clutch and push reverse in around 2.5k, doesn't it launch you in reverse?

Are you just barely stabbing the clutch and then pushing it back in once the lever goes all the way into reverse?

I've been driving for about 3 months with no reverse. It's not that bad, you just have to park creatively. Been caught once or twice where I had to push it, but if this trick works, I'll happily do it (until I get a new transmission).
