Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try and pay attention to that area on my next test. for far I've started the car several times and let it idle. Let cars temp rise to around 101c and then shut off my car. Looked around and under the car, but no signs of leaks. The car must have run hotter than that to cause that leak I saw around that res, hoses area. I also have a coolant pressure tester. Im wondering if I should just pressurize the coolant system that way?

Thanks, I'll try and observe that area when I run my next test.

so this was strange today on my testing with inpa hooked up. I also had the car show the coolant temp while I was driving and they both matched inpa and the vehicles reading. As I started my test drive, and with the e-blower fan displayed in inpa, I saw the fan jump from the normal 7% to a higher value. I tried to stop the car and was in the process of getting out to see if I could physically see the fan turned on. But the value went back down to 7%. Note this wasn't even when my car was hot. It was under 90c. I continued on my test drive and watched the temp rise to 101c when no fan triggered. The only way I could bring down the temp was to turn on my heater on high with the temp set to 84degs. I turned off the heater and temp rose to 100c again. all the while, my coolant fan didnt come on. so I drove home and checked for error codes on inpa and couldnt find any present... can someone provide me with location of blue wire and connection? Where are the fuses and the location on car? Thank u

would you be able to send a printed screen capture of ista on where this location is so I can check continuity? I currently dont have ista and my laptop doesnt have enough space to dl it. currently looking to get a new laptop to dl this on.

Yes, I will need your complete VIN tho, my ISTA gives me a "can't connect to backend" error using only last 7 digits.
Have you looked at that Lightweight ISTA+ in the link I sent? that's only around 10GB you should be able to free up that much space. Last edited by 3PedalJake; 10-02-2024 at 04:45 PM.. |

ista shows it as under the cover on the right side in front of the firewall. Looks like it plugs into the DME.

100C is normal operating Temp. I assume your 2012 N52 has NO ROTS (Radiator Outlet Temp Sensor) since INPA shows Outlet Temp 7.5C LESS than ECTS Temp. That is a calculated, NOT sensed, value if NO ROTS on Lower Hose. 1) At Idle, I would Activate your E-Fan at 50% using INPA > MSV80 > F6 > F1 > F2 E-Fan. Does Fan Run with Ignition ON? If so, there is nothing wrong with Fan, Cut-Off Relay, or Wiring. Fan should also run ~ 39% with Compressor ON, DME control. 2) Is there any coolant leak or loss of Coolant in Reservoir? If so examine system carefully for leaks, after shutting off engine once it attains > 90C temperature. Vapor Pressure will cause leak similar to Pressure Tester. 3) Does vehicle run at 105C or less when operated at 30 MPH or above? Ram air flow through radiator provides sufficient cooling > 30 MPH. Fan may never come on, vehicle stationary, if ECTS reports temp < 100C, unless Compressor ON. 4) Have you used INPA > MSV80 > F6 > F1 > Shft+F1 Coolant Pump Activation to view Pump % of max speed as DME controls pump speed? Pump Speed & ECTS Temp Value will be shown as engine idles. Pump speed should go from ~ 15% at 80C to higher %, such as ~ 40% at 90C. ISTA ScreenPrints of E-Fan circuit for your 2012 E92 N52 are attached. George |

1) With engine not running and car on, I can always trigger the e-fan (with inpa) on all 3 different speeds. They run several seconds and then turn off. I've noticed that I get an error when trying to trigger the the e-fan with inpa when the car is on and running. last week, I couldn't trigger the fan with inpa while the car was running. Today, after taking off my dme and cleaning terminals and checking continuity with pin 8 to e-fan blue wire, I was able to get continuity. So I cleaned and put dme back and ran the car. I was able to trigger the e-fan with inpa while idling. After taking for a test drive to run your other suggestions, I couldn't trigger the e-fan and got the same error as before. I will post the pic below of last weeks error message which is same as what I got today. Only difference was temp was at 101c when I tried triggering it while running 2) I recently went ahead and ordered a coolant reservoir replacement and installed it, bled system. after the test drive and getting temps up, I didnt have leaks visible at hoses. But I think the coolant reservoir may have a slow like at the connection of return hose to res. 3) I then took it for a test run and tried driving around. Did the under 30mph and noticed car went up to 107 at highest, and then down to 105 before driving back home. 4) I can see the pump running at around 17% when car is running. I didnt see it go higher when temp was about the 90c range. I was looking at the e-fan and temps more so. I will try and run more test tomorrow. As mentioned I checked and cleaned dme terminals after get schemetics and help locating pin for signal wire. thanks for helping and for the information provided. 3PedalJake thanks for the pic also to help me locate pin. cant get the ista lightweight to dl to my gdrive. will report tomorrows findings. Thank you all. Hope to narrow down the culprit soon... if so??? |
