2011 335i misfire after vanos bolt recall work
160 mile drive home from the BMW dealer after they performed the vanos bolt recall. Halfway home I gas up and notice a bit of a rough idle. Another 20 minutes after that and I get a check engine light. Car still seemed to have power (no limp mode) so I don’t worry too much. Once I get home the idle is rough still. Check the codes and I have a misfire on number 3 and 4 cylinders.
I didn’t notice the rough idle on a couple cold starts before driving home. It was only after the long highway drive. My first suspicion is that the dealer messed something up. Seems awfully coincidental to have two cylinders suddenly misfiring out of nowhere. I’ll call the dealer obviously but I have my doubts they’ll be helpful. And I don’t think driving 160 miles in this condition is a good idea. First question - are there relatively easy things I can check that may be loose or incorrectly installed? They would have pulled the valve cover and they did replace the vcg. Second question - anyone have experience with a dealership messing things up? Not sure how to go about this. |
