Can't reset oil change kilometers

Hello,

I have recently changed my oil in my 2007 320d E91 and wanted to reset the kilometers so I'd know when my next oil change is. However, when I tried to do it through the trip reset button, with the yellow triangle and so on. I held the BC button to reset it and the clock animation appeared but the kilometers still stayed the same and also in the negatives. (-21k) What could be the problem and what should I do? Thanks in advance.

That was my first thought too, but then I read the OPs car is a diesel. Not sure it applies.
