How to convince wife to let me buy a bmw

Hey guys, so obviously by the title i want to buy a secondhand m340i, but my wife HATES bmw because of how ‘unreliable they are’ and how mechanic shops would be ripping me off when there’s problems s. She also doesn’t understand that half of my buddies are mechanics and we’d be doing most of the work on it ourselves. I want to buy this car because of how big the community is and how easy it is to mod them, and it’s a beautiful car. Any tips on what i should say to her to let me buy the damn car? and any tips i should know when looking for a used one would be helpful aswell. Thanks

Show her recent consumer reports rankings. BMW is tops. Then tell her that the engine in the m340i is so reliable that toyota is using it in one of their cars. If she still doesn't agree, then find a new wife.

Re: Your first question:
No need to say anything. Just Buy it.

Then immediately drive straight home, pick up your wife, and take her out on that romantic weekend getaway she's always wanted.

This is a prime example of a situation where it's "better to ask for forgiveness, rather than permission".

Re: Your second question:
Get a pre-purchase inspection done from a qualified Indy that knows BMWs.

Buy the car without her knowing, get everything checked out by you and your mechanic friends, surprise her by wrap or cover and she's going to ask "what the..."....say you bought it for her and let her drive it for a while

Meanwhile you can be a fake second driver knowingly you want the car yourself too.

Get that 6mt Supra and told het it's a Toyota, problem solved !

for real, I understand this can be a conflict source with wifes. I'm lucky to have a wife that can care less for cars. We have a common bank account, if there's $, we can use it, knowing a good % of our salary automatically going into a investor hands anyway. So the remaining is for stupid stuff, and we dont fight for this.

I had 5 cars last years, sold 2, and did a project ; swapped a N54 single turbo into a 6mt E91. And she let me do it, i lov her

I agree that this is a perfect solution because the OP can tell his wife not to worry as they are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

A CPO will also give him peace of mind.

Here’s a good how-not-to book.

https://www.amazon.com/Youre-Office-.../dp/1250130778

(Not messing around, this one seriously helped me in my marriage, and I now have a couple of BMW’s in the garage. I’m not saying there’s a direct causal link, but it’s a hell of a coincidence ~ and a copy of this book is equally a hell of a lot cheaper than a side girlfriend and the cost of the lawyers)

Divorce her? Why would you marry someone who tells you want to do and bases opinions on nothing?

Depends on how they contribute. Is she the bread winner? Then she obviously has a say. Are they 50/50? Should still have a say.

I'm the only provider so I kind of do what I want BUT I still run things by her as a courtesy.

We don't know the details of their relationship and how their finances work.

Don't "ask" - just buy the car. MGTOW

My wife told me buying an M5 was a bad idea and its going to be expensive.

I told her I did my research and bought a well kept example plus I will be able to fix most things on it myself.

Less then a year of ownership and my motor seized and cost me tens of thousands to get replaced.

She still says I told ya so pretty regularly but we are a still happily married and if a car is going to be what jeopardizes your marriage, then you have your answer.

Happy wife, happy life is not a myth!!!

I agree in a way when it's your passion, the wife should understand.

but nowadays, yes there's people who ''like'' car, no more , but passionate people are rare-af.

So in that case, when $$ is involved, this can bring some conflict.
