Confused About Potential Suspension Set Up

Hi everyone,

I drive a 2010 328i n51, standard suspension, non Idrive. I have heard mixed results about the following suspension set up:

B4 standard shocks and struts, PN: 19-135021KT (Which is same as stock I think?)

Eibach Lowering Spring Set, PN: 2085.140

Some people have been telling me that this works, while others say that these lowering springs wont fit due to the height of the shocks/struts. Just want a clear answer, I do not mind returning the B4's for B8's.

Also planning on changing bump stops, strut mounts, and installing a Meyle
M3 control arm kit. Maybe a sway bar, and adjustable links later.

yes, wont work. why dont you just a get a bilstein b12 or b14 kit

I agree with @335i54n. B4s are designed for stock springs (regular or m-sport). Better than OEM, but they are strictly for OEM-type springs, not for lowering springs. I would not skimp here, but go with B12 or B14, based on what I think you are trying to do.

Just curious what makes the b4's better then OEM?

I don't know the answer. I only know what I feel behind the wheel -- the B4s are better than Sachs, IMHO.

B4 is exact same as stock. B6 is designed to be a better performing shock for OEM-type springs and B8 is for lowering springs

bilstein oe replacement from my experience and what i read are a bit stiffer than stock or sach oe replacement

Will be going with the B12 kit, everything else I know to replace would be strut/shock mounts, and bump stops. Am I missing anything else?

Not "missing" per se, but a few other ideas while you're tackling everything:
  1. Dinan camber plates are an easy addition for more front camber.
  2. E30 upper strut mounts raise the front 1/2" + gain the same front strut travel. I'm using them on my Pro-Kit setup for a more OE stance vs. the aggressive rake of the Pro-Kit alone.
  3. The Monroe rear shock mounts are a cheap "upgrade" over stock. You can go even further and cut 10mm off to mimic the expensive Dinan kit and gain 10mm of rear shock travel.

It's not that it won't fit, but that's an OE replacement shock.

No idea where people get the idea that B4's are stiffer than stock aside from the fact that they replace their worn and blown out stock ones and find that they feel better. Everyone's like "I heard they're 10% stiffer but someone else can chime in."

B4's are very mediocre but are completely fine for OE replacement.

I would go Koni Orange or Yellow or Bilstein B8 with lowering springs, depending on your needs and budget.

I agree only that a B4 is a replacement for stock OEM. Having refreshed a suspension with 18k miles on it and felt the difference from the Sachs, I would not say "exact". That B4s are better.

This ftw with a B12 Prokit for street. I went with the Dinan rear mounts but sounds like Monroe is the more cost effective option. Going to do the E30 mounts next season to finish this combo.

Thanks a lot, I did not know that you could use the E30 mounts on E90 but that combined with the monroe mounts in the rear sounds like what I am going for. Thank you again.
