E92 335d - starter solenoid clicks no crank
Hello, I'm having issues with my E92. Few months back i started having issue with starting my car, doesn't matter if it's cold start or not, when i press start button, solenoid clicks but no crank. After i roll down my driver side window the car starts normally. I replaced FRM module before since i had issues with my windows. I also recently replaced battery since the old one was old. When i checked ISTA it had these codes:
00A0C1 - CAS: Output, terminal 50 009CCB - FRM: Relay, power window, driver's door, faulty 009CCC - FRM: Relay, power window, passenger's door, faulty 00D904 - CAS: K-CAN line fault 00D944 - DWA: K-CAN line fault 00E2C4 - CON: K-CAN line fault 00E484 - SMBF: K-CAN line fault 009DF7 - AHM: No hardware signal: brake-light switch (This fault is there a long time since i don't use hitch so i don't think it's relevant but just to be sure i included it) I don't think CAS is faulty since everything else works correctly and the car actually starts after i roll down driver's window. I don't want to mindlessly change starter since after rolling down the window it works normally. Do you have any idea what could be the issue? Is it starter issue or could it be something else? You can use ISTA to determine INPUTS to CAS when Transmission is in P/N & Brake Pedal pressed. CAS must receive TWO signals before it will send KL50 voltage to Starter Solenoid: 1) P/N Signal from EGS if AT (unsure about MT Neutral signal), sent via K-CAN; 2) Brake Light Switch ON signal via hardwire from Brake Light Switch, hardwire. You can use ISTA to see if CAS is receiving BOTH of those signals (when starter won't activate): 1) Connect to CAS Module (in Control Unit Tree or List, Click Module rectangle/line & then 'Call up ECU functions'). 2) Click on 'Diagnosis scan' Tab, then click 'Inputs'. 3) Click desired functions to read, here (at least) Park position & Brake-light switch. 4) Click 'Read state': BOTH P/N & Brake-light ON (if pedal pressed) should appear. If that does NOT disclose the cause of your issue, use 'Test Plan' to try to get more info. Attached is a pdf, "Fault Memory & Test Plan" which explains more details on ISTA functions, with sample screens from my 2007 328xi E91. I will attach, to NEXT Post, an ISTA ScreenPrint of the 'CAS Inputs' with ALL ECU functions selected, Ignition on, engine off, brake pedal NOT pressed. If the "NO Crank" condition began after FRM change, it is possible that is related, particularly when activating a window via LIN-Bus seems to allow KL50 signal from CAS to Starter Solenoid. If Dealer was involved in FRM replacement, perhaps THEY are responsible? George |
