Red face Thinking about selling my toys for something else...

Kicking around the idea of selling my Hellcat & the Miata and picking up something else. Would love a V10 R8, but that market is still lol no thanks at those prices. Don't want to pay $80K+ for a 2011 model.

It would have to be something that really gets me excited. A properly done LS swapped 66 or 67 Chevelle would be a contender. Not sure what else.

I have also been thinking of selling just the Miata and getting a 2006+ Elise or Exige, but that market is still lol high too.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If I sold both, it would have to be for something I REALLY want. Not really sure what else that's not stupid $ that would keep me happy...

What would your budget be for a new toy? That would help narrow down the list of potential options.

Around 100k for something that really excites me if selling both

Car prices are insane, there's basically nothing sub $100k I'd have any interest in owning right now. Nothing is worth the price.

Keep the cars, hope for some type of correction in the market 5-10 years from now.

Totally different approach, buy a 2 stroke go kart if you have any tracks nearby? A lot of fun to be had with a shifter kart that can do 80 to 100mph (or more) while sitting an inch from the ground.

You're not wrong. Maybe just add a driver quality C5Z or sell 1 of them for a 427 Vert. I have owned a C6Z.

I do also want a 67-72 C10 but not sure I want the headache

i think in a year or two we will see used c8 z06s under 100k. its going to be really hard to top that experience for less.

1LZ already at $100k. Market value is now $30-35k under MSRP used.

My vote under $100k is a 997 or 991 GTS. Maybe a Turbo S if you’re a turbo kind of guy

I'm in a similar boat. I have my dream spec Corvette that sits unused because it has no backseat and I have two kids now, then my track Corvette that sits because I have no time to race. I also have my daily X5 and my backup daily TBSS.

I've often considered replacing the vettes and X5 with something that's fun with a backseat. 911 prices are nuts so you're either getting an older/slower one or maybe you!stumble into a low priced 991.2, but those are rare. ct5 Blackwing is an option, but they're also expensive, and frankly you can get a nice F90 M5 for the same money (no manual in those though).

Buying people's swapped cars is always risky IMO. You never know if it was done well in a dude's garage, poorly at a closed down shop, or really badly in a driveway.

What excites you? Would a Viper do it? What about a C6 ZR1? What about something totally different, like a ram srt10? Are you just looking for something to take to car shows and ogle, or would you drive it often?

The market is not gong to change for those rarish cars you listed, it is what it is.

From the cars you listed i'd be keen on an Exige as a proper excitement machine. Other option is a latter year GT350, hell of an engine.

What is it that's missing from the Miata and Hellcat combo that you really want? If you've got a $100K, there are a ton of options.

I was dead set on a C5 Z06 as my fun car and looked for about 1.5 years but just couldn't quite get myself to pull the trigger. When I got honest with myself, I realized that I always wanted a Porsche but wasn't willing to spend $50K+ on my fun car at the time and I wanted a Porsche I could work on myself, was considered generally reliable, parts readily available, was fun as hell to hustle, but could take on a road trip, made the right sounds, etc. I honed in on a 987.2 Cayman Base 6MT even though I really never considered it up until switching gears. I figured if the experience was good, then maybe I'd move up to a "better" and faster Porsche like a 911 or Cayman GTS in a few years. 2 years later, I not ever selling my Cayman. It ain't fast, but damn is it fun and every time I drive it, it's an experience, and I drive it almost daily. I still love C5 Z06s too, but I also want some level of quality and refinement. Owning my M235 for 9 years has really changed my perception of what I want and expect in a car.

There's nothing that I dislike about the Hellcat or Miata. I would love to boost the Miata, but don't trust shops to not mess up my car at this point.

Maybe I'm just bored. Can't hurt to look at your options.

They aren't rare, though (Aside from maybe an LS swapped 66-67 Chevelle)

Yeah, I wouldn't bother boosting the Miata. I have yet to see a kit for a ND that is very reliable or doesn't have a few driveability hiccups. When considering the C5 Z06, I was also looking at ND2 Miata RFs. It was a bit too small for me (easily fixed with some seat mods), but the power and surprisingly disconnected chassis is what turned me off. The car clearly needed suspension/wheels/tires. The power just didn't have any punch and there just aren't any good power adders I'd trust.

Ever driven a mid-engine sports car? Game changer.

A Miata is not supposed to have a power punch what exactly were you expecting? Mine is tuned and I added a GWR exhaust. Really makes it even more fun to drive. Also lowered on progess springs & added some 17x8 Konig rims + a GWR street spec alignment. It's a whole new car vs stock.

I really do drive the Miata a lot more than the Hellcat...at least until it gets cold. The Hellcat sits for most of the summer & fall, sadly.

I've driven a 458. If only I had the money...

I was expecting some drama with the acceleration given the stellar reviews, the improved power, and more useable rpms. Perhaps it's the refinement of a newer car, but the RF lacked much snappiness/shove when hammering the gas at 4500rpms in 2nd, so real sense of urgency thru the powerband (very linear, no "on cam" feel), and devoid of much induction noise. The drivetrain felt like it had somewhat mushy engine and drivetrain mounts as well. I think I was expecting something more like an S2000 type driving experience in terms of the sensory stuff. To me, the power delivery and sound felt very much like my son's auto 2020 Mazda 3. The RF certainly felt light and the wrapped around you. I could definitely see it being a stellar performer with some well chosen chassis stuff like my friends have done with their NB FM turbos that I work on and drive often.

I’m at the point where few cars excite me. The fact that the car market is still ridiculous and trade in values on everything I own basically make them all worthless… makes it a bit easier to just keep what I have.

Honestly the only thing I’ve driven recently that kinda made me think, this is kinda interesting, was the Hummer EV. Just a weird vehicle and I like to try new things. Also kinda interested in Land Rover… mainly just because I’ve never had one. Other than that meh.

For you though if you want a Miata with more power what about a Z4M? I think my Z4M was my favorite car I ever owned and the only car I regret selling.

An Exige is properly hard to find. There's currently one base and one S for sale in the entire USA.

I'm still kicking the idea on selling the M4 for a 991.2 Targa. Pricing on 991.1's has started to come down to a reality...but the 991.2 and 992.1's are still crazy high.

Would love an R8 - but I'd need the older gen with a manual.

Needless, laid the groundwork with the wife. Planted the seeds, let her know the costs. Once she said no and was done laughing, I wisely moved on to a different topic. Takes a little time, not my first trip around the block.
