N57 exhaust pipes always coated with soot

I have a 2010 e92 with the n57. The previous owner said that the car is stock to her knowledge other than an ECU remap. I have only recently started to notice a large amount of soot on the exhaust pipes. Is this normal or has there been other modifications done to the car. At the time of taking the attached photos, all I had done to the car is removal of the rear silencer for a hollow pipe, which is why it has caught my attention. The car does have quite a whistle when driving normally as well as a fairly loud compressor surge when lifting off the throttle over 2k. Also I’ve been told there is a small amount of black smoke out the tailpipes when full throttle. (The photos were taken less than a day apart)

My exhaust tips look like 2 black spots on back of the car from 30 feet away. DPF's probably still there. Full, by the looks of it.
