It's something we are going to have to live with for now, but I don't really think anyone has cracked the EV looks / space compromise yet

But of course, looks are totally subjective.
Subjective as you say. The bit about the EV9 that bugs me is the low ride height. Would look far better riding higher, definitely an EV compromise there.

£901 per month for 48 months on salsac at 15k per year. Including insurance, maintenance, tyres. That’s for the top spec, around £750 for the base model.

You can’t really take EV away from the price equation. It looks expensive in the Kia range with the gap down to the Sorrento. If the EV9 sized Telluride was sold here then that would demonstrate the EV-premium more clearly.
I sat inside the new sorrento too. Its interior is much more upmarket than the ev9 to the point of premium. The battery cost needs to be made and the weight saving too.
I had a nosy in new car deals on autotrader and 50k after discount in it with a 35 mile quoted petrol plug in hybrid seems better value for the family buyer though drives worse than ev9 with a low cog

Hybrids are the only way to go unless you insist on being a beta testing eco-warrior.

Don’t knock it.

I was definitely highly sceptical of KIA (hadn’t even considered it) until I went to the local dealership on a whim in 2015.

The Sorento in the showroom was bigger, FAR better specced, cheaper, and just as quick and economical as the competition. Plus, the staff were down to earth and knowledgeable unlike the clueless/pretentious/dismissive twats that are often found at BMW, Audi, and Mercedes.

We’ve had our 2.2d Sorento (second hand from a dealer, £44K list but paid £27K) and apart from a failed xenon headlight (warranty, naturally) and a new radiator (which was working fine but was replaced under recall) it’s been faultless.

It’s comfortable, has loads of space (including 7 usable seats), and will quite happily lug our family of five plus 5 bikes on a rear carrier plus roof box plus trailer.

Very happy with it.
