Compared to it's predecessor (the 2002/2002tii), it was argued how dramatically heavier it was (imagine that thought lol), how it didn't handle as well, how it was slower, uglier, much much more expensive, etc, etc. The fact that BMWNA was only a year old at that point, having bought out Max Hoffman the prior year, and that they were embarking on a quest to move BMW way upscale and to attract a much wealthier clientele didn't help either. It was viewed as the beginning of the end for BMW, lol...almost 50 years ago now.

Are you seriously asking "should I buy a car now or in 4 years"?

That's a totally separate decision.
