I have an 2011 328xi and I was trying to figure out how to test the auto dip mirrors. Does anyone know how to test them.?

Thank you

By auto dip, you mean the dimming aspect of it? If so, then shine your phone's flash light on the rear view mirror sensor. You can find it in the middle top of the glass in a purple colour.
You should see it getting darker. And if you have auto dimming side mirrors, you will see those getting darker as well.

If by auto dip you mean the reverse tilt of the passenger side mirror, then simply make sure the little switch for selecting what mirror to adjust is set to the driver side, and then put the car in reverse. That's it.

I tried that but I didn't notice any change. I think I tried testes them using Protool and they still didn't do anything. The vin decoder says i have S430 and S431.

Since you have Protool, any errors related?

A fault with the passenger's side side heated mirror could cause issues for you because they share the same connector for the dimming feature.

Auto dip is not the same auto dimming. The latter is explained in the above posts.

Auto dip means the mirror will tilt down so you can see the curb when you're in reverse. To test that, hit the mirror toggle switch to the left position (LHD).

Are you sure? Why would the options list describe the interior mirror as auto-dipping if that was the case?

That list is from BMW vin decoder and not official literature. The use of words may not be as precise.
