Fender liner removal??
I'll be putting my summer wheels back on, and while I have the wheel off, I am going to try to clean out my washer pump as its not working.
About 2 years I tired installing my MTEC AEs and had all the bolts off inside and underneath to remove the fender liber. For the life of me I could not get it off!!! It was loose on the inside but something was definitely still holding it on. This was the front inside fender liner to access the AEs, but I think the entire fender line needs to come out to access the washer pump. Does anyone have a good step by step with pictures or video on how the hell to remove the liner? I've searched around and most are "basic" instructions such as on pelican parts. But like I said, I am pretty sure I had all the bolts off and it wasn't coming off. Tried watching some AE install videos but they using skip over the fender liner removal, or say something simple like "remove bolts, remove liner" ... Well duh... Is there some trick to this or what? I have to be missing something here Please help me. I felt like an idiot before and almost ended up breaking it off I was so frustrated before. Edit: is the washer pump on the driver or passenger side? I've read DIYs that state one side or the other... Some we're European DIYs though which made it confusing... I have a US left hand drive car, which side is mine on?

Your washer pump is on the right (passengers) side, behind the right front wheel. I had no trouble removing the back half of the inner fender, and the reservoir. I don't recall the number of small screws I had to remove, but there was a bunch, and there was two different sizes. The reservoir was held in by only one bolt. If you couldn't get the inner fender off, you must have missed some screws.

The trick you're looking for might be that the liners are tucked into a slot in the fender sheet metal. Also, they switch overlap at the outer front corner. Plus, if you have an oil cooler, the upper left screw holding the cooler grill also holds the liner.
Hope that helps. |

I had to replace right side fender after I got side swiped so I removed my liner in prep. It was pretty straight forward but take a loook at this pic and maybe it helps.
I remember a lot of screws like #3 but i also remember having to remove two like #5 and #7 and those look different. JIC maybe you missed something. Quote:

That diagram is very helpful!
Does anyone know if I can remove the "rear" portion of the liner to access the washer pump WITHOUT removing the front liner? or do they both have to come out?

You may have to bend the front liner a bit to pull the tank out completely but not enough to break anything. |

Im hoping my pump is still good, just that my filter is all gunked up as many people have had happen. I literally never use my washer fluid, as I hate how it sprays all over the car... Jet Black is hard enough to keep clean!!!

You'll need 8mm and 10mm sockets, a torx bit (t30?), and replacement plastic rivets. I actually pushed the plastic rivets through and ended up being able to reuse them. Again, it's fairly simple to figure out if you just check everything over. |
