Cable can hi can lo help
Hi, I'm about to connect the rear PDCs retrofit. The question is, can I take the CAN and CAN hi cables from any side where the cables of that color are visible? Or is it necessary to be from the fuse box harness? The harness that goes to the back of my E90 has both cables of the same color. Is that possible?
The cable has to be identical or similar, is that ok? Solid or braided like the original? E90 lci 328xi 2009 Last edited by warlockuy; 01-17-2025 at 10:36 AM.. |

Can bus is exactly that, a digital communications bus shared by all connected devices.
It doesn’t matter where in the bus a new device is plugged in (excepting termination but that is a separate issue). So yes it does not matter which side the device is plugged into. I found the Can bus to be very sensitive to resistance loads and even solder impedance changes, so make sure you use identical wire and have very secure and good connections. Don’t accidentally cross connect the high and low sides anywhere too. |

If you absolutely MUST use different color cables use a wire label on both ends of each cable to identify it.
Your future self or buyer will thank you for that. Last edited by opjose; 01-17-2025 at 01:57 PM.. |
