I've tried doing some searching with an issue like mine but had no luck finding a thread/post, so forgive me if it's been repeated a bunch of times.
I have a 2007 CCC unit and for the past couple months or so the maps seem to randomly cut out on me. In the Nav window it'll say "DVD Read Error". I've been using a burned copy of the 2015 maps since 2016 without an issue. The disc (somehow) has some very very very light scratches on it. I can take the disc out and put it back in and usually the maps will come back on, but if they do, they'll eventually just cut out again - could be on the same day or days later. Is this a problem with the unit itself or the disc? Thanks!

I don't have a burner or access to one. Been asking around to see who still has one these days.

Apparently burned dvds make these lasers work harder and fubar earlier (no idea if true) but I had a copied one which made a right racket in my CCC but you can get "real" dvd ones off eBay now for like £10. Would recommend this, cheaper quicker and worked perfect in mine. Update each year!

Not true.
The racket was more likely due to an unbalanced or misshaped blank. The blanks can often vary in quality. The eBay DVD's are often churned out by people who do low volume copies as a sideline. Their burners are typically worn and not calibrated nor maintained as mass duplication machines can be. That is why a new cheap burner is a much better option. Less chance of worm gear or positioning errors and misalignments. |

Fair enough, makes sense. Although personally I wouldn't buy a dvd burner for a single use to copy an old nav disc when I can buy an up to date one for less money. Each to their own!
