The Id version had no influence on my decision whatsoever. I'd be happy with either. I wanted a daily that I can toss around the track a few times a year

You missed one:
ordered 2022 ID7 and rolled to 2023 ID8 by production delays

My first production date was May 18 and kept rolling until it turned into a MY23 now Oct 3rd. I’m glad the delay forced ID8

I placed my order when I thought I would be getting a MY22 but the version of iDrive truly doesn't matter to me.

I got the 22 because I wanted the m240i and made sure and ordered one as soon as an allocation was available.

Idrive version wasn't even a thing at that point. So no one would have ordered simply because of idrive7.

In retrospect I am relieved I have a 22 though.

I ordered way before iDrive 8 was rumored. I found iDrive 7 to be the best infotainment in the industry.

That being said, I was at first upset when I heard my order was bumped to 2023. But now after seeing iD8, I'm cool with it and would rather have that over the now last-gen iD7

…at least that's what I've been telling myself! 😂

Live in New York and needed x drive, but don't need an m240. 230 is fine for my needs—just had to wait for it to come out as x drive.

I wanted a rwd car so I waited for 2023. The form function of the car’s infotainment system was not a factor either way

I just love new shit in general. That's why apple is so successful - make stuff like dynamic island and people will instantly recognize between a 13 pro and 14 pro.

I placed my order and got an allocation in January, but production kept on getting pushed back until June. I finally got my car last week of July right before the 23MY were about to get pushed out. Although the idea of having the newest technology is cool to me, I just don't like the way they integrated ID8 with the interior. I'm glad I got the ID7, even if it isn't the newest tech

The iteration of infotainment system was not a factor in the decision.

I did not care what I got as far as iDrive systems. Just wanted the 240 for everyday commuting.

I ordered a 2022 but a 2023 came. Either way I would have taken the car and been happy. I didn`t vote because a didn`t care either way option wasn't there.

After the fact I am happy I got the new idrive8, it looks awesome.

Was not aware of the ID7 vs. ID8 thing.

Wanted a 230i BMW. Found the local dealer had a new 2022 230i on the lot. Bought it.

My first exposure to iDrive (I don't know what generation) was with my 2018 MINI Cooper JCW. Really liked the system.

And I really like the iDrive in my 230i.

I ordered my 240i in 2021 prior to iD8 rumors but would probably be okay with both.

I love iD7 for the most part. Huge upgrade from my last vehicle. I do wish I had the same gauge cluster layout of iD8 though.

Ordered and received my 2022 M240i with ID7 before ID8 was announced.

And thank God, because I don't like the cheap, tacked-on screen look, missing buttons and missing shifter.

The actual software functionality of ID7 versus ID8 makes no difference to me.

It's the new look and functionality of the 2023 interior design that doesn't do the car justice or reflect the car's performance characteristics that I find problematic.

See, out of all of the critiques, this is the one I don't get. I still fail to see why the screen has any reflection on the car's performance.

Can you share a link to any other true sports car / sports coupe (not "sporty") with no instrument cowl and a people-mover vibe to the dash?

Other the new Mustang? I just don't get the argument at all about what lacking a cowl or having a widescreen display means anything about the impression of performance. This is just another thing that because it's not what we're used to, people don't like it.

Also, ACTUAL race cars don't exactly have cowls/traditional gauge cluster.

This the M4 GT3 interior...do those screens accurately reflect the car's performance characteristics?
