Hope this hasn't been posted; I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Curious if anyone has installed the BlendMount radar detector mount on their rearview mirror? I've had it in a previous car and it worked great, but this one seems to have a really thin clip for the tight clearance. I believe they also offer an option to tap into the rearview mirror's electrical to power the radar detector, which makes for a very clean setup.

do people still use radar detectors? i had read somewhere with all the different wireless systems in cars these days that they're no longer super reliable...

i pretty much count on waze for police reports.. i wish Google or apple maps had similar functionality as waze does

I don't drive without a radar detector. Saved me multiple times from being a law enforcement officer's "customer" after driving enthusiastically.

I am looking for blend/mirror mounts as well, suction cups are trash. I think the G20 has the exact same rear view mirror, I'm guess ones compatible with the 3 series will work here as well?

I installed a BlendMount a while ago, it works totally fine. The install process is a little more annoying than in the F22 due to the tighter clearances around the mirror.

For the mount I just emailed them pictures of the mirror and they told me what to buy. I also tapped power from the mirror; for that I followed instructions from the G20 forums (mirror is basically the same)

Mine has saved me thousands, I run waze religiously as well but feel naked without radar. I have it pared down to Ka, X, POP, and LASER to avoid motion detectors, lane sensors etc.

I wouldn't drive a performance-oriented car w/o one...or at least a good one. My personal choice is the Uniden R7 (I like knowing the direction where the radar is coming from), and next choice would be the Uniden R3. I've owned both.

It's like Ford & Chevy, people will have their preferences, but I'll put the long-range Ka performance of the Uniden's up against anyone. I keep the X, K and laser bands turned off, as they're almost never needed and it speeds up the processing of the Ka detection (doesn't have to cycle through bands I do not want scanned). Only exception is I may do a little online recon if I'm taking a long road trip to see if any podunk towns use those near obsolete bands. And when the laser goes off it's simply a warning that the cop already has your speed. This is where Waze is great for an extra layer of security. The vast vast vast majority of cops use Ka, and this is where the Uniden's shine! However, I've been busted by cop using instant-on in a blind turn, and I accept that's just part of the game.

Another nice feature of the Uniden's is they do not send back any frequencies that cops in the few anti-radar-detector states can pick-up on, so you remain invisible in that regard.

That's exactly the type of online-recon I was talking about. To be honest, I'm surprised more LEA's do not acquire these old bands just for this reason - nail those that turn off that frequency.
