Build Breakdown Video on my car posted on YouTube...
Hey Guys,
My buddy Brandon from Shifted Perspective posted a build breakdown video on my car. I think he did a nice job portraying the build and considering he’s a M car nut he was pretty respectful of the lowly 328 with its N52...

Love it! Might have to link up sometime - I gotta friend in your area I can stay with. I looove to see a FBO 328 vs 128
Very modded-N52-esque, needing to explain what the mod even is before you can say you've done it. I've definitely been there. I usually just call the MILVS an "intake cam" for brevity.

I'm glad your build got some love on YouTube. Hope to meet you someday if you ever head north to East TN / Carolinas for any car meets.
P.S. I'm disappointed BMW discontinued the Performance suspension for our cars as I'll be buying shocks and springs in the near future. |

Love it man. It looks good and clean. Your setup is what everyone should strive for. (I am)
You talked about your suspension, but you never mentioned sway bars? Did you upgrade those too? |

Yes, a front swaybar that’s part of the Performance Suspension Kit. It seems to me the PS swaybar is not as firm as the m3 swaybar but the spring rates of the PS are higher than M3 spring rates. The interaction between spring rates and swaybar rates is a complete mystery to me, which is a good part of the reason I wanted the performance suspension which included a swaybar.

How do the apexs feel for you, Biginboca ?
I think I want a wider square set... but I'm curious as to how these aid you in performance

I know you have a sedan so you can probably get away with a 9.5” wide wheel up front. 9.0” square on the ARC8 was a safe fitment option for a coupe, plus the 9” wide ARC8 is 1/2lb lighter per wheel vs the 9.5”. I read an article where Porsche calculates that wheel/tire mass is a 6:1 penalty vs static weight in the car. So 1 lb of wheel weight equals 6lbs of weight sitting inside the car as far as how it affects handling and acceleration. By going with the set up I did vs say a 9.5” with a 265 square tire I save about 2lbs per wheel/tire. That’s 2x6=12lbs per corner. So like saving 48lbs of static weight off the car. In a n/a 328 48lbs is a lot of weight that’s like adding 5hp. I need that 5hp ![]() Having 255’s up front really didn’t make any detectable change to me in the handling. I’m sure on an auto cross a good driver might feel the difference but for me adding front camber made a much bigger difference than the tire upsize did. The wider front tires do look much better though. They really fill out the fender wells.

You documented your objective (an economical, reliable, daily plus some extra sizzle to scratch the itch for a driving enthusiast), then documented the steps and thought process to get from stock to special. Additionally, you did so in an intelligent manner, without spending stupid money (spoken from first hand experience). Your 328i build reminds me of the type and spirit of car BMW used to build: nimble and agile, lightweight, NA I6 motors with a bias for spinning freely, sort of quirky, and not too spendy. Bravo!

And there has been a little of that but the majority of the comments have been really positive! I think Brandon was careful to make it clear that the point wasn’t to build a drag racer it was to have a fun and reliable daily driver, which it really is.

Nice. All about the straightforward, reliable and feel-increasing mods.
Bravo! Loving the 3.91 rear gears. What kind of rpms you run @80mph in 6th? |

I was nervous about the RPMs maybe not being good for the engine. Then I thought, my 2009 car spent the first 3 years of its life in Germany and was imported to the US in 2012 with 27k miles on it. So it likely already spent many hours doing ~100mph on the autobahn at 3500rpms (with factory gearing) so it should be ok lol
