JB4 G5 Open Loop fueling for those w/ timing drops
Hopefully this will help with others who are experiencing the same thing...
It's been "chilli" lately here in Sarasota, FL and I've been getting many timing drops from running an E50 mix. My OL setting was manually set to 95 and I've kept that setting because it's usually 90+ degrees out and that setting prevents timing drops. But come to find out, when it's below 70 degrees, my car starts to experience multiple timing drops where it would ramp up to 10degrees, then drop back down to 6 and ramp up to 10, then drop again, with my LPFP going below the value of 50 (some logs showed 38), then would instantly jump back up to 70-80. After shared emails for support thinking it was my LPFP, I finally figured out how to stabilize my LPFP and clean up my timing. I adjusted my OL to 75 and the car is finally happy with a smooth ramp up in timing. Even with my timing drops (2-3 drops depending on gear), I still managed to trap 112mph this past weekend. Now that I have it solved, I can't wait to finally go back to the track ![]() The first log is w/ OL @ 95, the second log is OL @ 75 |

So less open loop = less fuel pressure?
Doubt this will solve the timing drop on a permanent basis. Some runs are clean and some will still nosedive timing. Do a number of logs and see if it does not come back. I'm hoping it won't.....but these N54's like to tease ![]() |

Interesting.. How about leaving it on Auto instead of manually settting it? Would it adjust down on its own?

Open loop settings govern fuel trims and fuel pressure but won't do much with regard to ignition advance. I think you've got a red herring here. You noticed your meth flow was different between those two logs right? More meth flow would certainly improve advance and lower fuel trims.

I have logs with 100% meth flow with OL set to 95 with timing drops. Idk what's the deal with my car lately but it seems to like OL 75 in this cooler weather. Will post those logs when I get home. Thoughts? Or do I just have a crazy car?

I've had the same exact experience when temps went down here. Was running 17.8 psi all summer with really clean timing, OL set at 95, and then temps went down to about 0 to -10 celsius (maybe 15-32 F). I'm now experiencing little timing drops even if I lowered boost to 16.3 psi. I will definitely try your trick. I posted about my problem here but nobody seemed to know what was the deal with my car. I will get back to you when I try it.

And my logs at 17.8 psi in cold temps look exactly like your first one in your first post.

With meth and E50 you should not have those timing drops. I'd think anyway... The boost target is strange too. Are you learned here? Seems like there is some other issues... I am used to the stock timing curve though, must be different with flash.

Yes please post your results. My OL auto-adjusted itself to 71 this morning (53degree F) running 17.0psi w/ clean ignittion timing 10-14.7 degrees.

it's learned after 3 WOT runs. I noticed the strange boost curve too.

So I tried it yesterday. Definetely helped my timing! But as other said, why?!?! I dropped back my OL to 75 while letting it auto-ajust, and tried with the same boost as this summer. I did at least 5 logs in 3rd gear and 2 logs 2-3 gears. Timing is really smooth, no drop. Temps were cold, -2 celsius. The only problem now is that with the cold air comes more power, and my clutch began to slip. Before I changed my OL it was at 91 with meth add at 33 and I was still experiencing little drops. Now 45 add, 75 OL, timing is almost perfect. Interresting to say that my trims are still looking good.
Maybe someone with good knowledge can try to explain..??
