I am working through the diag on this. a smoke test showed no leaks externally. as im new to the BMW realm i have done some considerable reading on the topic of lean codes, PCV system and the valve cover. things i know:

New valve cover gasket, aluminum cover, no oil leaks in that area.
No external air leaks from the crankcase through the intake system.
No air leaks from the airbox thru the intake manifold.

What i dont know for sure and i assume is that the pcv is stuck open. for the price of it im going to just replace it and move on. when i shake it it does not rattle or sound as if the valve inside is loose i can blow through it with a small amount of restriction. i have ordered one and in the mean time am going to just take my dremel to the old one and see what makes it tick, or not tick in this case.

I have read of a flap inside the valve cover. does this flap prevent flow? or is that to valve on the intakes job?
