New N54 trap speed record

Terry from BMS hit the track yesterday to test out his Motiv750 kit. Even running low boost and with soft launches he managed to set a new trap record of +136mph.

I decided to race our 135i with the new MOTIV 750 kit today and just go for traps. To that end I ran on the normal 245/45/17 555Rs and just launched the car in 2nd gear with boost capped at 12-15psi.

Logs on the dyno looked great fueling wise but as soon as I started doing runs at 26psi at the track, a problem became apparent. The low pressure pump was not keeping up. So I wasn't able to do any high boost runs as I had originally planned. As the day went on fuel pressure got worse and worse.

Still, managed a respectable 136.4mph trap speed. I've attached the log of the run so you can see how bad the fuel situation was. It actually did a map4 switched right at the cones so I may have gone a bit faster had the pressure hung on a bit longer. After this run, I decided to pack it up and head home. Only to my surprise, after parking the car, it wouldn't start. An hour of diagnostics later I figured out both my inline 255 & my fuel pump controller had shorted out. Luckily I was able to hotwire the primary pump with some spare wire to get the car home under its own power. I've got a Fuel-It Stage3 bucket in the garage that will go in and I'll have to probably order another controller.

Anyway next time, whenever that is, I should be able to run enough boost to hit 140mph. I figure it will take 32psi. Then I'll strap on the Hoosier slicks and start working on the launches.

Nice run! He gets a good 60' and he'll be turning in a 10 second run for sure. He had the same trap speed as my buddy's 700HP GTR and my buddy was able to run a 10.4, but he ran a 1.566 60'. Can't wait to see what he does with a some slicks and a good launch.

My mind does not understand how you can run such high boost on the stock motor and it doesn't decide remove its pistons and head without tools!

Hey Allen, as a frame of reference, how much cfm is this single pushing at say 10/20/etc. psi compared to the stock twins?

I believe he was only limited to 15psi in second gear, in the other gears he was hitting ~26psi

FP does not publish compressor maps and there are no compressor maps available on the stock MHI units(although there are various TD03 maps floating around and a guess could probably be made) so it's hard to compare the two based on CFM. Our testing and Terry's testing put the 750 kit on the 9psi spring with very modest timing at roughly 400whp where the stock twins would require 16psi to make the same power and the 15psi spring somewhere around 470whp which is beyond the very upper limits of the stock twins on anything but a very generous reading dyno.

If you take a quick glance at the datalog, you can see 12-15psi in second gear, but he is hitting 26psi in third and 4th! That is, only of course if the log provided is the log pulled from his trap record pass

If grip is impossible in first or second these cars are never going to consistently hit 10s. Trap is awesome but even with a 2.2 60 I'd still expect to see low 11s.
