lower exhaust volume

Anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to lower the exhaust volume?

Please don't tell me the only option is a new muffler.

I got sound checked today and hit 102db @ 50ft.

Do you have turn downs? What is the limit at your local track?

No and 92 is the limit. I'm looking for something more permanent than turndowns. Race muffler probably.

Turn down tips will decrease SPL about 2dB, tops. A race muffler is the loudest option. Dropping 10dB is going to be tough.

You have catless headers right, but do you have sec.cats in place? I have PE with sec.cats deleted and SS mid pipes instead. Sound is just perfect. Now with headers it's too loud imho - that was main reason I decided against it. The suicide combo is when you have both headers and sec. cat delete with PE - that sir is F1 racing sound, too loud for me

Actually that's snooze quiet compared to a race muffler which is physically painful anywhere near the car. Headers, secondary delete, and a PE is seriously quiet by comparison.

You're car is too loud. You need a muffler.

Ya, 10db is I big drop in sound energy.

The Db scale is log rhythmic, meaning a 2 db drop is about a 50 percent drop in total sound energy or pressure.

You have a very long way to go.

Yeah, I never had such race muffler, but I can imagine. IMHO ideal setup for sound is PE + sec.cats delete - it gives that pure PE creamy sound but makes it a noticeably louder thanks to sec.cat delete. It's deep sound on cold starts and very nice sound under load, but still can scream when under WOT, especially in tunnels it's a F1 sound while still staying civil when driven calmly - that setup is best of both worlds! However, in OP case he went towards extra gains from catless headers and thus made his life more complicated and is facing a dilemma now. He definitely needs to put some smaller muffler in between his headers and PE or put back sec.cats - they will quite down exhaust for sure, but I don't know if he has them deleted or not

I swear my car was quieter straight piped than with my current muffler. I need to either cut it back off or find a different one.

Add a Vibrant Resonator to the mid-pipe. That will cut the sound by 20-30%
