Installing Performance Diffuser (e92)
Hi all,
I am interested in purchasing a performer diffuser for my e92 320d (probably this one: http://www.mstyle.co.uk/bmw-3-series...t-not-335.html ). However I'm struggling to find anything online about how I'd go about installing this. Has anyone here done this themselves? Is it a big job? Does anyone have any links to any videos or DIY write-ups or similar that might be of assistance? Thank you! |

Yes I've done it. Pretty straightforward if you're any kind of a DIYer. I notice they even supply you with a revised underfloor piece, whereas I had to cut my existing piece down to size.

Very straight forward tbf.
Few 8mm retaining screws and it's clipped in from the top. Just take your time and you should be fine.

I've just bought one from a member on here he says its half hour job to fit so will see when it arrives.
That one sounds very expensive, how much are they from BMW ?? |

OP, you should call the dealers and ask as brand new from the dealers they are cheaper than that even before any discounts.

I tried to take my stock diffuser off and had to give up. Those clips are a bloody pain. Everywhere says just apply pressure and they will pop. No chance on mine. It was flexing the diffuser plastic too much.

Just be aware that (as I recall) the genuine BMW diffuser comes in primer only - so you'd have to add the cost of painting...

You have to pry right from the end and it should 'pop' out. You can get up behind it and use a flat head screwdriver to help it along.

Always worth asking the dealers for a price first tbh.

True. In fairness I was only really using that link to show that it was an OEM one I was looking at. If I go for one I'll likely go with Cotswold who I've ordered some bits from recently and had a good experience with.

Thanks all, one more question before I commit to buying...
What colour should I do the diffuser in? My car is sapphire black. From what I understand the diffuser itself comes in primer and the central/lower insert just comes unpainted and so is effectively matte black ABS, like this: ![]() Should I paint the diffuser the same colour as the car and leave the lower insert unpainted, like this: ![]() Or should I paint the whole diffuser matte black to match the ABS of the lower insert, like this: ![]() Any thoughts? I've just fitted mine, with the original diffuser I had a look online as it was hard to get off. Everyone said pull hard so I did and it came right out with no damage. New one looks great.
