Anyone use the backseats?
I haven't been in a situation where I've had to put any guest back there. I tried sitting back there for the first time and I can't help but feel how useless the backseats are. No head room. No leg room. It's truly an awful experience being back there and I'm only 5'8. I had 2016 M235i back in the day and the rear seats were actually pretty decent and roomy enough.
Have you had any complaints from friends/family being back there? |

They aren't as big as the last generation, but they are still better than something like a Camaro or Mustang. They certainly aren't meant for road trips, but I'm 6' and I can fit behind a smaller passenger in a pinch. Probably no more than a half hour though.

At 5’11” i can fit behind my seating position. Yes its tight, but I can do it. I can understand that anyone taller or with weird proportions might find it uncomfortable or undoable. I once fit 4 adults at the same time. Tight fit but it’s doable in a pinch…

The back seats of our G42s is only for the rare or occasional rear seat passenger, not for regular transportation of passengers. I haven't yet driven my car with anyone in the back seats. The seats are very good for putting jackets, hats, etc. for easy access when necessary.
I really didn't buy this car to haul anyone with me, including in the front seat. I have too much fun driving by myself everyday and enjoy the visceral performance of the G42... |

I would have never bought the car if I thought I might ever need to have more than one passenger on a regular basis.
I remember having passengers get in and out of the rear seats of coupes when I was younger.....and it's a pain in the ass. |

Had a family member ride in the back seat of my 2022 230i. She was there for 6 miles to a restaurant and back. No complaints. But that occasion was a rarity. I have gone years between having 3 people in one of my 2 door 4-seater cars. I'm pretty confident the back seat is not a place any adult would want to occupy for any real distance/time. |

I had the 77-year-old wife (probably 5' 6") of a dear friend sit back there and I asked her if she was doing okay. She said just fine. I did have to extend my hand to help guide her out but that was mostly due to her age. The funny thing is that when I was driving through an empty office park and started really pushing the car and shifting using the paddles, she was laughing. When I finally slowed down, she remarked enthusiastically – wow, that was fun! I think that says it all.

They are much more spacious than my RSX. I feel if you're 5' 10" and under you can fit. The main issue in the G series is headroom rather than legroom (due to the swooping rear roofline).
I honestly find having a small but usable backseat an important feature. Rarely would you be asked to take other passengers, but you can in a pinch for short distances if needed. Most they can afford this level of a car, have a backup SUV or sedan to use too. |

On several occasions, had 4 adults. (Un)Luckily, I am the shortest, so that means more space behind the driver. Passengers never complained; actually, they commented that it was more comfortable than expected. As others mentioned, getting in and out are the most challenging parts especially when you have to tell people to "Wait! The seat is still moving."

My 8 year old son (in a carseat) and 6 month old Australian Shepherd puppy sit in the backseat on the weekends because I love driving this car too much to take our more practical vehicle... Doesn't bother me, and doesn't seem to bother them. The speed of the seats isn't really all that bad, IMO.

My Morkie (Yorkshire Terrier crossed with Maltese) loves it - he has plenty of room…..I sold my Cayman GTS for the 230i so he had his own seat and we could go out together

It’s a little cramped and I couldn’t ride back there for long because I get claustrophobic. But I’ve seen worse. Ingress is a bit tricky but egress is really bad.
So far I haven’t even had anyone in the passenger front seat. |

I use a manual wheelchair, so for me, coupes with a backseat are a must. I use it to store my wheelchair while I drive. The best thing is that the G42 fits my wheelchair in the trunk as well due to its tall opening (unlike my previous C43 coupe). I've also had a few adults in the backseat in a pinch and for short trips, they survived unscathed.
