I think the e46 might happen...

ive been looking over my payments and financing options and if i do get a e46 m3 i can lower my payments by nearly half.. i really honestly do love my e92. i cant find a single fault with it...
do you guys think i will really not like an e46 m3 almost as much or just as much?
i have really missed a vert since my old s2000 and i was thinking about a vert m3. i know it rains alot here but i always seemed to drop the top even when it was like 50 degrees and cloudy

what do you guys think!! such a delema.

I can guarantee you will have no regrets (see sig), only minor cowl shake.

Find low miles and do it.

haha yours looks just as nice as that minus the red that is priced higher then my current 335i is worth haha that would result in an increased payment not a decreased on

that ebay link was just a color/picture reference for the white vert.

I always want an E46 M3 as well, but not a vert. Sorry, I really do think the coupe looks the best.

well, you will miss the low end torque like crazzy but the e46 m is an amazing car! if you find a vert and like it then go for it! but your luck of finding white/red is very very very slim

I currently own a 2004 E46 M3 Coupe (with only 24k miles) and a 2007 E90 335i. It’s not just the seemingly affordable sale price of E46 M3s that you need to consider. The maintenance history on M Cars is extremely important. There are many high mileage, beat-on, and under-maintained M3’s out there for sale (cheap) these days, but you often get what you pay for. You’ll see plenty of E46 M3’s out there with mismatched, cheapo tires, an indication that the owner can’t afford to properly maintain the car either. The chances are that an inexpensive M3 will be very costly to repair and maintain. You definitely need to consider the costs of properly maintaining an M3 into your equation.

By the way, SMG and vert are just two more costly things that could go wrong on an E46 M3...

+1, i would do some searching of e46fanatics etc to read up on maintenance costs etc. all i can tell you derrick is to get an 04+ m/y because they did a lot of upgrades to the car from the factory from the earlier years, avoid most all 03s

An E46 M3 will definitely cost more in the long run from a maintenance standpoint.

Yeah i know it will be very very hard to find a white on red m3 vert BUT i am not in a hurry... i think waiting for the perfect car is completely worth it.

i am not looking to buy a cheap m3 either. my uncle owns a used car dealership and bmw brings many many lease cars to the auction.

i am looking for LOW mileage and of course i will be looking for a well taken care of car. 2 of my other uncles are mechanics and have been for over 15 years with their own shops...

they help me with all my maintenance and get parts from bmw at 25% off and give me them at their cost. so as far as maintenance i am not really worried.

MOOKIE you would let me drive your car!
I KNOW ITS BAD THAT I HAVENT DRIVEN AN e46 m3 yet!!

i came out of an e46 330ci sport premium cold so i have been a member of e46fanatics for a while and have done alot of research!

i know it wont have the grunt that my jb3 335i has but im hoping that i wont be disappointed by my first drive from lack of power and torque.

Dude, DO NOT go on e46fanatics and im serious. Worst forum ever.
m3forum.net is the best for e46Ms

Start off by reading following threads:

http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=190111

http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=231113 - This is if you're after an SMG

Here are rest of the sticky threads:
http://m3forum.net/m3forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

I'd strongly recommend you stay away from Manheim auctions or any other auctions when looking for an M. Find a local 1 owner M3 that has been well taken care of.

Also, if you buy an 05/06, most of those will be well maintained cuz they were under free factory maintenance for the first 4 years.

Yes, i will let you drive mine if you can drive a manual.

if i can drive manual har har! i really am skeptical of the smg... i hear how clunky and rough it is.. i have loved and driven manuals since i was 16 in every one of my cars (4).

man i would looove to drive such a good example of an e46 m3 like yours!! you might like the torque of my 335 you can take it out on a spin as well
PM'd.

went to bmw seattle and test drove a 06 aw m3 coupe with the 6mt... it doesnt have the low end torque but that 3.2l na 6 is fantastic. the steering and balance of the car is amazing. it is a bit stiff as to be expected.the steering wheel is nice and thick maybe thicker than the msport one for 335's...

verdict. i think i am going to go with the e46 m3 and a reduced car payment. i need to go drive a vert now and see how much chassis rigidity it loses and how much slower it is due to weight.
