i read on here if you pull it off and try to replace it, it will kink and break.

if you wet sand it and use metal polish you can clean it up and give it some shine again.

if you want to paint it, i would tape it all off, mask the car to include covering as much of the body as you can to avoid overspray settling on it, old sheets whatever you got. scuff it up with sand paper and degrease and paint in light coats.

another option would be vinyl, you can always undo it.

if you want black though it might be easier and nicer looking to just buy the trim and replace it. just know the chrome is probably going to be unusable after you pull it off.

You have read incorrectly.

The trim is plastic and can be removed, painted, vinyled or whatever else you'd want to do and then put back on. Shadowline trim is an expensive alternative.

How do you remove the trim? There is a DIY here that states it gets bent if you try to take it off.

DIY forum.....

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8069

from that thread i READ THIS.....
"Lower Window Sill Trim - This is the complicated part. Word from the wise... If you are trying to do a trim swap with a 330 owner (taking their chrome trim), you can not reuse this trim. In the process of taking this trim off, it will bend (it is made of metal). When you straighten it out, it will have small bubbles in it, and it wont look good. It will look like someone took a ballpine (sp) hammer and had a few swings at your trim. If you are going to chrome trim, you will have to buy these parts in some way or form. When I did my trim swap with James from bimmerworld, we did not know this, and James was curteous enough to buy me the trim. The black trim from the 325 can be reusable if it is taken off properly. Its made of plastic.

Had a body shop paint my trim while it remained on the car. It was fairly cheap and has held up great. Still looks flawless over a year later.

Shadowline is just too damn expensive for the E92.

Go on ebay and search for e92 vinyl. There's a guy (he's also a member here, Khuster) that sells it pre cut. If you look at the trim you can see that it's different pieces so having it pre-cut is a good thing. And he'll send you instructions on how to do it. It's about 50 bux.

Or google shadowline trim and you'll see that you can buy the roll of the tape for like 20 bux.

I bought the pre cut and it's getting installed by a tint shop next week. I guess you really need to wait till gets warmer to do it yourself...and I'm not waiting for that here in Germany...that's why I'm getting it done...plus...I guess I don't want to take the time..

If you go to the dealer and ask for the shadowline trim...I think they can get it...or google it...

There have been some people that want to trade believe it or not...
