Injector Duty Cycle vs. Boost meth activation ?
Hi,
I am researching the pros and cons of each method of methanol flow triggering: based on the injector duty cycle vs. based on boost. Is the IDC method really better than boost ? I mean, the N54 can make high boost off the line, would I need meth to be sprayed at a low RPM where probably there is not much fuel sprayed into the engine ? I am not confortable with spraying meth when the injectors don't spray much fuel, are there such situations (high boost / low IDC or high IDC/low boost) for the N54 engine ? |

I feel like i'm saying that a lot recently. flows based on injector duty cycle - Ideal Has fantastic failsafes - Ideal works w high concentrations of meth - Ideal and you wont find higher quality parts on a off the shelf kit. HFS-6 is even better but more $$, thats what I have on my e36. one of the users on this board worked with Jeff@HowertonEngineering to put the HFS-3 on his 335, thats the way I would go hands down. apparently the HFS3 is working well w DI motors. click below ![]()

I have the Labonte S4 meth setup with IDC and boost activation.
Im fully stage 3 modded running +/- 18 psi . I see the same IDC values at light throtlle input and low boost , as i see at full throtlle and max boost. The car injects alot of fuel , not only on peak boost or high rpm. Feathering the throtlle i see IDC values around 8-10 when you push the throtlle a bit so you can feel the torque come in , you can see the IDC values shooting up to 75-80% . The controller reacts to this and injects alot of meth at low boost levels .

I can get high IDC levels and high injection levels with less then 50% throtlle input. This controller is definitly not easy to setup , i think i got it working ok now , but it takes some trial and error. I have start boost set to 8 psi , and my gain turned up high to get good max flow. Sometimes just overtaking a car , pushing throtlle medium wise , i get (for example) a peak recall of 8.7 psi , IDC level of 77 and a injection of 730ml/min. The car must be requesting alot of fuel during these , what would seem light loads. If i set gain lower it seems the controller reacts also more to boost , and so injecting a litlle bit less on lower boost levels. in another thread i said that i see lower IDC values at peak recall since i went from 550ml/min to +/- 700ml/min max injection. Maybe the DME doesn't react fast enough to the sudden meth injection to lower the pump gas injection. So that at a low boost i get high IDC values and high injection values. I think that during the pull the DME adepts to the meth and suply's fuel accordingly.
