Infiniti G37x rental car while my E91 is in the shop
I have a G37x rental while my E91 is in the shop, recovering from damage caused by some spawn of satan. Here are my two cents on the Infiniti for anyone who's interested.
It does make a great sound, and it feels extremely powerful. The handling's not bad, either, and the ride is supple, managing to absorb the worst of Toronto's broken up roads without ever wallowing. But in every other respect it just doesn't compare to a BMW. First of all, I cannot stand the interior. Cheap plastic everywhere and the central screen / controller is horrible to look at and worse to use. The screen resolution (no nav on this one) seems to be about the same as my Amstrad CPC6128 from the 1980s. I never used to be a fan of iDrive, but in its latest iteration it is light years ahead of Infiniti's screen / controller combo. Virtually every button and contact point in this car feels awkward to use and slightly cheap. I appreciate that many people don't really care about these kinds of details, but to me they are a big part of enjoying your car. I have to feel like it's been thoroughly engineered and thought out, and it's here that Infiniti fails. Also, while Nissan has a pretty good reputation for reliability, I can't imagine that this interior wouldn't look really tired in a few years. The steering just doesn't compare to BMW, either. It's got that American "disconnected" feel to it, which is basically the opposite of what I'm looking for. Seats? Not really a fair comparison, since my E91 has sports seats, but the Infiniti's are seriously lacking in thigh support and bolstering. I'm sure the sports package seats are much better. Last but not least, the styling, or lack thereof. It looks good as a coupe, but as a sedan the G37 seems designed to appeal to guys who like the Wayne Gretzky clothing collection at The Bay. Overall, the G37x is light years ahead of your average rental car, but I can't imagine ever considering buying one, no matter how much cheaper it might be.

The only reason I got the G37 was because my insurance policy provides for an "equivalent" vehicle while my car is being repaired.

Obviously the Infiniti is light years ahead, but the interior looks like that of a tarted up Nissan Altima.

I test drove one when I was looking for a car last year, and while it was definitely fast, I wasn't overly impressed with the rest of the car (similar issues that you brought up).

I have a ton of friends who all love the G35 and the G37... but no matter how hard I tried to force myself into liking it... I couldn't.
Regardless of the price... the performance... the pressure... I'm so happy I went with my 335xi ![]() |

I know i'm pulling up an old thread but I agree with you on G37x. My Bimmer (granted a 323) is in at BMW Toronto thanks to a large pot hole that did some damage to the back end of my car. Enterprise gave me a G37x. While it sounds pretty good, i'm not overly impressed with the interior. I always thought the the coupes looked nice, but the sedan just doesn't cut it. My girlfriend agreed, calling me a grandpa for driving it. lol.
Ah well, I should get my bimmer back tomorrow. |

Infinitis vs BMW's
Infiniti's are great looking cars and on paper offer more than a BMW, features/lower price. But when it comes to pure engineering and build quality they dont even come close. It's a Nissan in Wolves clothing. The trouble is if you have never owned a bmw you wont know what your missing and if you buy the inifiniti many times you don't notice all the little things until you've put down your first months payment and drove off the lot

You wont notice things like.....they never break down. You will have a hard time adding $7,000 in options to an Infiniti whereas you would have a hard time driving a BMW WITHOUT about $7000 in options. I like my 335 but lets get real here. |
