Must a marked Police car stop you for speeding at the time or can they send NIP later

I know the safety camera folks can send an NIP as they will have video evidence, but do normal marked traffic cars have the same capability, or would they stop you at the time of the offence?

From my experience, they need to stop you.

But if its reckless driving, and they have a camera + don't have time to stop then possibly could prosecute you!

What exactly has happened?

Thanks chaps. Just trying to understand whether the local traffic department has gone into camera based speed enforcement where the Safety Camera Partnership left off.

I always thought the difference here was the the police would use discretion and give you a talking to at the roadside vs sending an NIP through the post upto 2 weeks later.

That's the beauty of discretion. On most occasions I find speaking to a driver and explaining the error of their ways is much more beneficial than blanket issuing of tickets.

I don't know what your local force is like and what is fitted to their vehicles ie provida etc. I've known NIP's to be issued at a later date but to be honest it's quite rare. I doubt you've much to be worried about.

When I overtook an unmarked car some weeks ago, as documented on here, I was hugely relieved to be given a talking to and impressed with the officer's attitude. Fair, reasonable and sensible. I gave no bull and he was courteous, professional and got his message across. So much more meaningful than a camera or a letter through the post.
