Posted about this before but didnt get much response and couldnt find anything on it so thought few people might be interested

having had the lights on my dash all winter thought it was bout time i got them sorted







Had a mate scan the car for faults and it came up with the 5e20 code. did some research and found this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4002556788...84.m1439.l2649. offered 120 and got a counter offer of 130 so took that. arrived in post very quick -




Fitted it today earlier. Abs unit is easiliy accessible its just by the windscreen -



Whipped the old pump out, its held down by 3 10mm nuts and then the lines on top (takes some wriggling to get it past, i didnt remove anything else though). Abs unit out -



the whole units held together with 2x torx bolts



pump apart -



Slot new one in as it came apart



Whip it back in same way it came out



Thats bout it easy job took me just over half hour. Then just bled the brakes. Thought i was gonna have to take it to a mates garage to activate bleed mode but the brakes arent too bad. and more importantly, as soon as i started it up -



no more lights at last!!!

Gonna take it to a gravel car park later and activate the abs a few times and re bleed all the brakes tomo and should be perfect again.


There you have it DSC failure fixed for £130 (plus brake fluid)

Nice work. I heard a new pump is near enough £2k - definetely worth the effort. The DSC and DTC system are linked though so do test both out to ensure it works all good. Did you also code the unit to the car?

I dont think you need to code it. All you did was changing hardware.

BMW definetely code it to the car for it to function properly. Don't know how the OP has done it.

You only need to code it if you replace the whole unit, this is just the mechanical side of it not the electronic so no coding required.

Yup no coding whatsoever didnt even need to clear the codes or put it into bleed mode. Just a couple of spanners, a bleed kit and some brake fluid. lights gone gonna re bleed the brakes now

You will still have error codes stored in the DME though.

Were you the chap posted earlier this month about the BBA remanufactured idea and have now gone on and done it?

as long as i dont have the dash beeping at me everytime i start the car can always clear any codes next time i have a scanner to play with


and yeah that was me that posted about the units before. couldnt really gather any info on them so just went for it in the end and turned out very well. was worried about the ecu going nuts and throwing up a million faults for one reason or another but not problem at all
